Writer Rafael Gumucio received his undergraduate degree in education and holds a master’s degree in literature from Universidad de Chile. He is the founder and director of the Institute for Humor Studies at Universidad Diego Portales; has written novels, nonfiction books and plays; has hosted radio programs and written and acted for television comedy shows, notably Plan Zeta and Gato x Liebre.

His reportage and opinion columns have appeared in Chilean publications such as El Mercurio, Las Ultimas Noticias, La Nación, and Paula, as well as international publications such as El País in Spain, Letras Libres and Gatopardo in Mexico, and The New York Times and Diario La Prensa in the United States. He is the author of, among other books, the novels La deuda (Literatura Random House, 2011) and El galán imperfecto (Literatura Random House, 2017), and nonfiction works such as Contra la belleza (Tumbona, 2010).
